i need a little christmas

I am ready to put up my Christmas tree. I want my house to smell and feel like Christmas right now, not because I am actually ready for the tangible part of Christmas, but because I am ready for the intangible part.

I grew up back east, where nobody had an artificial tree. It was considered blasphemy. It was considered treason. It was a crime worse than you can imagine. But I am a westerner now, and green things are scarce here, so give me the fake tree! Give me the tree I don't have to water twenty times a day because it sucks it up like a big straw. Give me a tree that can stay up for two months and make me happy.

My plan is to come home from Thanksgiving dinner in Salt Lake at my sister-in-law's house, and sit beside my tree. Sure, the kids and my husband can join me if they want, but nothing will sway me from my plan. I will lie on my back and close my eyes and look at the colored lights through my eye lids. I will put on The Messiah and dream of world peace and good will. I will not concern myself with presents and money needing to be spent. I will do my best to get in the right spirit. The spirit of unconditional love.

Gimme gimme...

It sounds soooooo good right now to me too! You really capture the feeling. Sigh. We have a fake one because we are all allergic but I really miss that smell and all the associated memories. BTW, the comments your husband wrote on falling are divine. I especially love that last line. Pure poetry!

You're the best. (:
I love the way you think! I don't know what else to say...

This is how we should all look at Christmas, no?

I LOVE what you added to my post about falling today. LOVE it so much. Thank you for sharing it!

All my life I had a fresh tree since we put real candles on it, but as you say they are harder to find now and so we have an artifical one now, but I can't wait to put it up! Good Luck with your plan.

Oh, me too!! I'm feeling so ready! We always decorate the day after Thanksgiving so it's coming pretty soon, but I'm not sure if it's soon enough!

Ohhh, I can't wait to do that too! Oh, and you can just light up a pine tree candle to get you feeling like it's the real thing too!;) Glad you found me my friend and blogger friend!

I love looking at the lights through my eyelids too.

So, I've been listening to Josh Groban's Christmas CD for WEEKS for the same reason! I had a friend who's family believed you shouldn't listen to Christmas music (or do anything 'Christmas-y') before Thanksgiving, because it would overshadow that also-important holiday...but I think it's great, because there's really no such thing as "Thanksgiving music", or a "Thanksgiving Tree", right?? And besides, The real spirit of Christmas always makes me more thankful, anyway...

If you do it I'll do it.

I want Christmas, too. And your excitement is contagious. I've had a fake tree for 10 years now. I have allergies, and it's hard to remember to water the live ones and dry Cristmas trees=fire hazard. I don't want to worry about that when all I want to do is enjoy the season.

I have already decorated. Each year at the end of November I host a Christmas card making party. I use it as an excuse to decorate early. This year I used all my decorations on the basement! I need to shop for more big stuff. I don't need anymore knick knacky creatures!
