"avoid the dog"

Once I got home from work yesterday afternoon and found that my husband had been so consumed in working on his digital civilization class that he had forgotten to put the chicken in the crock pot 4 hours earlier, we decided to run out with the kids for cousin Christmas shopping and then to dinner at the Mongolian BBQ joint down the road a couple of miles.  You get a big bowl and pile it up with thin slices of meats and loads of veggies and ginger, and then the guy who works there slaps it around on a big flat hot surface until it is cooked through and ready for consumption.  Oh, it tastes good.  But I digress.

So, it turns out I am a dragon on the Chinese Zodiac calendar.  I found this out by listening to my #4 regretting the fact that I got to be a dragon while he was stuck with being a weak little tiger.  I learned a lot of things about myself reading that red and white paper place mat.  I am eccentric and complex.  I have a passionate nature and abundant health.  And in the romance department it looks like I should have married a monkey or rat late in life.  And then the final warning to avoid the dog.

I wonder if the monkey or rat would have remembered to put the chicken in the crock pot.

I hope I'm something fierce, like a hairless cat.

And I could really go for some Mongolian BBQ.

Ha ha!! That is hilarious. If you'd married a moneky or a rat you may never have found out all those things about yourself. You'd just be at home eating chicken with your rat. (and probably without kids because you would have married late in life).

Good point, Lisa. Plus, I could never love a monkey or rat as much as I love my dragon husband.

It surprises me how much we can learn about ourselves from other cultures :))

Hopefully your nice dragon husband paid for your meal ?

I love studying those red and white placemats!

I'm a horse and full of it too....but it's those stories that make life interesting...eat chicken tonight!

(I just love this. That is all.)

Looks like we share a few things in common today:

1. I too forget to do things because of that consuming DigCiv class (it's too fun!)

2. I LOVE Mongolian BBQ, best restaurant EVER!

3. I am a dragon.

4. Someone in my family (my husband) is a tiger.

5. I don't know about monkeys or rats but tigers definitely have trouble remembering things like putting chicken in a crockpot. ;) (but hey, so do dragons in my case)

My husband and I went to MBBQ once and realized, after we found our zodiaks, that we were seated underneath the picture of the dragon and the tiger together!

I'm a dragon too--and so was Gary, so I'm all for two dragons ending up together! Glad you enjoyed your Mongolian BBQ evening.

I'd thank whoever forgot cuz Mongolian BBQ is fantastic.

Ha ha!! That totally made me laugh, and made my day!!

Valerie | December 3, 2010 at 1:12 PM

But you did avoid the dog, right? So everything is good!

Yeah, seriously. If someone would have remembered the chicken, you would have had . . . well, chicken, and not Mongolian barbecue. So it's all good.

Man, what I'd do to have a Mongolian BBQ joint around here. You could drive 45 minutes in any direction and not find one. I'm green with envy.

Love your new photo in your avatar.

I love what Lisa said. :)

A dragon is pretty fierce and awesome. But a tiger isn't exactly a wimpy creature.

I'm probably a pig or a rat...something uncool. *sigh* (am going to have to go google that)

I'm going to seriously be thinking about Mongolian BBQ for weeks. WEEKS.

Who wants chicken in a crock-pot when you can have Mongolian BBQ? Thank that dragon husband of yours!
I'm a snake. Glad I'm not a dog!

I think anyone who got to choose their Chinese zodiac would choose to be a dragon! I can't remember mine.

And I used to go to one of those Mongolian restaurants, in Oxford - strangely we didn't see anything quite like that in Mongolia!

Hee, hee! My oldest became a bit obsessed with the Chinese calendar last year. :)

We love that place too :) My husband and I are rabbits (insert joke here) The kids are Rooster, Rat, Tiger and Dragon.

Dear Kazzy--we share a friend in common. (Bri Z.) When I read that your husband teaches a digciv class, and know that my friend is currently taking that class, I smiled.

Sometimes the stars align and I realize just how small our Earth is.

Anyway. I regularly forget to prepare crock pot meals. Rather, I think about it but put it off until I have time and, suddenly, it's 4:00 and that time never appeared. Ha!

I'm a metal rat and yes, I would have remembered to put the chicken in the crock pot!!! lol

A dragon.
I'm envious.

I'm pretty sure I'm a rat.

Not sure your dog could remember the chicken, but that's good.

Think of things you wouldn't have learned. Like you being a dragon and all.

I'm a tiger. And I married a tiger. I wonder if that's okay?

Jenny Lynn | December 10, 2010 at 6:03 AM

I did a little digging out of pure curiosity to find out that my sign is "PIG". LOL... it was interesting.

I can't remember what I am. I think I'm a rat. Which doesn't sound like a great animal to be. Especially since everyone blames me for the plague.

Heidi | December 15, 2010 at 1:41 PM

I'm a dragon, too. My sister, whose husband spent a mission and three years of employment in Taiwan, claims that it is best to be a dragon. I'm not sure if that's totally true but I'm sticking with it.
