visions of foam at my feet

Ten of my nineteen kiddos are now properly placed for next year in classrooms where they can be successful and looked after.  Two more months with me and then my influence is done.  The end of the school year is such a strange time, as I start the countdown (40 school days left).  I feel both excited about my own time off with my family, and a little reluctant to let go.  My inner control freak, I guess.

I have visions of the high plains of Wyoming, the not-yet-mature corn fields of Indiana and Iowa, and the thick greenery of Virginia, all dancing in my head.  We will drive across the country to see my family and spend time at the beach in NC.  I will grab a beach chair and a book and drag them across the road where I will find the perfect spot to relax and dip my toes in the Atlantic.  I will watch my husband and sons body surf.  I will visit with my mother, sister, and sisters-in-law.  And I will watch my sweet daughter-in-law, who, though she has traveled multiple times to Europe and Africa and Asia, has never spent time at an American beach.  It will be renewing and regenerating.

The East Coast beaches are always my mental images of retreat. Such peace and calm. True rejuvenation. I'm grateful to go there again through your words today.

If you pass through the mountains of North Carolina, you should stop and have lunch with Emily and I.

Vacations are wonderful... and good heavens is school that close to being over? I just counted... we have 55 more days. But even that seems just around the corner.

East coast beaches are heavenly.
I hope your mind gets a chance to rest.

Vacations are times in our lives for just having fun...We give ourselves permission to just enjoy life. Vacations rock! Enjoy it!

When will you be on our coast?

Not only have you earned some time to relax and be, it will rejuvenate and replenish. You can't draw water from an empty well, and you will spend your summer filling it. ((hugs))

As of yet, I have never been to the Atlantic either.
Sounds like after your 40 days are done, you have some wonderful R&R time in store for you.

I've always wanted to go to an East Coast beach. Actually, I went to one in New Jersey. That was pretty fun. But I've always wanted to go to the beach in Virginia or North Carolina.

And I love cross country road trips. Sounds wonderful.

'Two more months with me and then my influence is done'

You seem like the kind of person that has left a life-time of good influence on the kids you teach!

Grabbing a chair and a book by the ocean sounds wonderful right now! enjoy your summer visit there.

When I lived in Indiana, I couldn't imagine why anyone would find that place beautiful. Now I see corn-and-trees photos like this, and I just put my face close up to the screen and Breathe.

(And that's me, Becca, not checking to see if my Kid has logged off.)

Will you really grab a book or your ipad? It doesn't seem real that we're winding down at school. It's hard to let go...of some.

Kazzy | March 20, 2011 at 7:46 AM

Oh no. No iPad out on the sand.

I think what you do is very hard work, so the fact that you are picturing your time at the beach and visiting family would indeed help you get through the final days. Hubby and I don't travel at all, so I am grateful for all my travels before I met him, but I look forward to seeing pics and hearing how your vacation is when the time gets here.

Sounds like it will be a great trip! Never been to the East Coast...Well, we did go to Florida a few years ago.

Sometimes it's hard to say good-bye to those kiddos, but it's so rewarding to see them spread their little wings and FLY!
