road trip day 29: two homes
I can't remember if we had ever done the trip in just three days before, but we were like horses at the end of a long race this week. We plowed through the 2100 miles in three days, instead of the usual 4 we take. And now I write from the comfort of my bed. Sweetness.
The last 2 hours of the drive Geo drove and I sat in the back seat. It was tough. I had these little flashbacks of walking on the sand with my daughter-in-law, laughing with my sister, hugging my adorable nieces and nephews, and playing games late into the night with my folks. It was a balm for this over-taxed soul. I have gotten so used to being the long-distance family member, but in a short amount of time I slip right back into family mode, enjoying the closeness of everyone.
On I-70, through the mountains west of Denver, I started to feel home again. This home that I share with my husband and kids. This one where I have responsibilities and a job and a yard and pets. This home where I have built my own family.
But part of me will always be in the cicada-filled trees and humid air of Virginia.

I've enjoyed following along on your month journey. Welcome home!
Two homes, I like that. We miss you..it was wonderful having you here and having our family complete again. We are having a great time with Lear, thank you for letting him stay for a few weeks..love and miss you, mom
Welcome back Kazzy! What a wonderful, memory-filled trip you must have had!
Welcome home to your home! I bet it felt good to be in your own bed, but I can tell you yearn for the other home as well. What an awesome month you have had!
I have loved keeping up with your travels and seeing your family!
It was kinda like seeing what makes Kazzy so kazzy!
That's a mind-blowing distance! I can't really get my head around the amount of space there is in the USA. I'm glad you had a good trip, but I can imagine how nice it must be to get home, too :)
Two Homes is a great way to put it. I am so excited to go home to Utah with Bria in August, but I know I will be happy to come back home to Michigan, too.
I love that you filled your soul with family and fun and food and all the good things vacation brings. Thanks for sharing it along the way!
I know the feeling too well. Great to come home to a place you love.
Beautiful! I was the first one to move away from home in WA, promising family we'd be back after 4 years of school. We never went back, but it was and still is, home. Utah is home too. I love how you write because I can visualize what you're saying. It makes me think of my own memories from past experiences and look ahead to making more memories. I've loved following you on your journey.
Virginia, a place I've never visited, one that I would, especially as I'm reading Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek.
Welcome home, girl.
PS: Love the new look/feel of your blog! I've been meaning to change mine up, but the time, the time...
The re-entry is so darn hard, I know! Part of it is because it is vacation time and fun and games and celebrating and few responsibilities. I have to remind myself of that every time I want to pack my bags and move to the place I just came home from. But a whole month of being "home"--wow, that could take some time to get over. Hugs!
