road trip day 7: saddle sore

Today we snuck out of our friends' house at 5:40 a.m. so that we could plow through downtown Chicago before rush hour traffic was milling about. It worked and we sailed through with no problem. Yeh-heh-hesss...

The kids were great dozing in and out through out the morning, and it was terrific to already be 7 hours into the drive by the time we ate lunch. Beautiful weather again. When I took the wheel I cranked up Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" and we all sang along. It was a fun way to stay awake and to enjoy some smokin' music. Man, I love this CD.

Then we got onto the PA Turnpike and karma bit us on the backside as we were completely stopped for about a full hour while they cleaned up an accident which turned out to be 14 miles ahead (and possibly fatal we decided as we saw the wreckage).

Once we got going again we pulled off the first exit to gas up and get a few snacks, and I decided to stay in the car because I was catching up on Facebook and some other reading. Big mistake as I never got another real chance for a restroom break. By the time we pulled up to my parents' home in Northern VA I felt numb from sitting for so many hours without stretching my legs, and my bladder? Yeah...

PS. My mom hugged me so hard she kind of through my neck out a bit. For real.

Nothing better than a tight hug from your mom. I know the feeling.

So glad you arrived safe and sound.
Sounds like mom needed a hug.
At least your dislocated neck took your mind off your numb bum!

Let me get this straight: You didn't stop for a pee from Pennsylvania to Virginia? Now I am in awe of your extreme ninja bladder, among all your other amazing parts.

I know you'll enjoy those neck-wrenching hugs from your mama. I know.

Your mom must be really strong.

I can't go on a road trip and stay in the car. Ever. I want to visit the restroom at every stop. Just in case the next stop is a long time away.

Too bad about the PA turnpike long wait. I feel sorry for people involved in horrible traffic accidents. One house we lived in when I was about 8 was on a highway and there were many accidents in front of our place. Out in the country. My brother and I got used to grabbing blankets and running out to help.

That happened to me at my nephews wedding 2 nights ago. Someone I hugged, hugged me so tight my heck went out.

Yeah, was your mom a wrestler or something? Just kidding. I've had that happen before too (with regular strength people). What a fun day. I love long drives with the people I love, especially when the drive ends with more people I love!
