the business of change

Been forever.

We have listed our home for sale. I had forgotten how much time and emotional attention it takes to sell a house.  Every darn room has memories floating around in it.  I can't even write the feelings I have when I walk around in here.  But Geo and I have both felt sure that we are supposed to go in this new direction.  We won't go far, but we feel like we do indeed need to go.  19 years in this neighborhood brings nostalgia, but also a bit of restlessness.  In addition, we have felt like it is time for another family to enjoy this splendid neighborhood.  To raise their kids where they can walk to the elementary school, the store, the church, the park.  All of a sudden I feel like the house is almost pushing us away.

Strange how it is hard to cook, to go out and exercise, to keep in touch with friends, read blogs, to tend to regular things when you start to allow yourself to relocate, even emotionally only.  Distractions upon distractions.  It almost becomes paralyzing, not so much because of the busyness that comes with prepping a home to sell, but because your mind is fractured and random and offline.

If we don't get a bite here we will recommit and dig back in, happily.

Strange, the way we need to be so flexible in such a firm and sturdy thing as a home.

That's a big change! Good luck with the sale. I've only done a couple of big moves and it's enough to put me off ;)

If you would like some free home staging advice, email me pics of these areas in your home:

Bloglovin wouldn't let me post a comment, but I'm determined! :D

I SO get that restless feeling. When the spirit moves within us we have to act. And even though the area is PERFECT, sometimes it is perfectly meant for someone else, and I get that too. But what a lot of emotional energy. My prayers are with you. Stages of our lives take an enormous amount of energy to move between but there are thrills over that next horizon. I love how we reinvent ourselves in the process, like caterpillars who molt many times into many new creatures. I've been thinking a lot about Abraham and how early manuscripts subtitled his life "Get Up and Get Going!"

"fractured, random and offline"....love that.
Before I moved up here I lived in my home in West Jordan for 28 years !!!!
I hope it all goes well for you and you get that chance to move in a new direction and make new memories.

Nothing like moving to shake things up a little!
We've moved a lot the last few years, which I don't love, but I do love all the wonderful places and people that have enriched my life!

When the house has become a home, whether in 3 weeks or 19 years, it's strange and disconnective to feel that it's maybe not YOUR home anymore. I know the "pushing" feeling. And I hope the new one pulls you even stronger.

I wonder if it's just taking a while for God to put all the pieces together. Maybe the new family is having a hard time listening or understanding. If there's one thing I've learned in the past year or two, it's that things sometimes take a while to unfold, but when they do, they're better than I could have imagined. Lots of love for you, friend.

My wife and I have lived in the same house since 1983. It would be very hard for us to leave our little farm.

Wow, have I been there. And though I find the disconnect very unsettling, there doesn't seem to be any cure for it. So weird. (And if I were you, I'd take 'Momza' up on her offer. When it comes to decorating, she's a Zen master.) Best of luck, my friend!

love the rooms.

It's amazing what a hold they have on us.
It will be interesting to see the directions that your rooms go.

Good luck to you! Also, I know how you feel. My life permanently hangs in suspension.

I think it would be hard but wish you the best.

We have been in our house so long that I cannot imagine leaving - the memories and everything you mentioned. But I feel like one day we have one more move also - it frightens me a bit.

It is strange how life works.

Then again as hard as change is it is also adventure and I envy the adventure :-D

Moving is always a duality of excitement and the blues. Although, I'd honestly move if I could. Sadly, our house will need some major updating before that can happen. Best of luck to you and happy trails!
