The End

of 2008...

* I rediscovered blogging after attempting it a couple of years ago at a different location.

*I spent the entire year not seeing my handsome oldest son.

*The basement flooded.

*We got new carpet throughout the whole house because the basement flooded and the insurance company gave us a good pay out (because the basement flooded).

*We bought new furniture for the living room because we sent all of the old stuff down to the basement after getting the new carpet installed (because the basement flooded).

*We changed over to natural gas in the kitchen and got a new stove and really space age cool microwave after we took some money out of savings to finish updating the upstairs (after the basement flooded and the above improvements were made).

*Our second son earned his Eagle Scout award.

*He also applied to, and was accepted by, one of his college choices.

*I started working with the cub scouts and really enjoy it.

*Everyone in the family officially is a cell phone carrier.

*Geo's car broke down.

*Kazzy's SUV slid into a curb at 8 mph on some ice on Dec 23rd and is also in the shop getting a snapped off wheel replaced.

*Our insurance company that helped pay for our nifty new decor in the house is now going to pay for a nifty new wheel on the SUV.

*We are somehow managing even though we don't have a car right now.

*I rediscovered my love of singing.

*I actually have enjoyed playing Little Big Planet on the ps3 (and I am NOT a video gamer).

*I love my husband more than ever.

*My kids are even more important to me than they ever were, for some reason.

Just a smattering of events around here during these past twelve months. What is something you will remember about 2008?

I love all the good that came out of the flooded basement! The restyled basement and the livingroom look fantastic.

I also love that you are applying that wisdom to your current car fiascos and just planning on something good to come out of that too.

That kind of resilience will bring both blessings and strength.

As I think about the year's highlights, so many of them involve you...from blogging to movies, singing to late-night chats over diner food, and I still laugh every time I think about you saying, "Kuh-reepy!" I love your spunk!

What would we do without good friends?

I love how you say "Kazzy's SUV slid" rather than "Kazzy slid". yep, it's good to lay blame where blame belongs. I would have said more to finger the ice, myself. Other than the sliding, it sounds like such a good year. Not seeing your son is so hard. It makes me think of my sister who took her oldest son today to the airport so he could be shipped off to Iraq. It will be his first deployment after graduating and becoming an officer in the Marines. She said that it is much harder to see him go off to that than when he left on his mission to which I say, No duh! So, hard not to see your son yet it would be worse to have him home (or off to fight a war) so it's all good--and I know you know that. I guess I just felt like I had to fill up this whole white square but it is so obliging and just keeps getting longer and longer and longer . ..

Loving your husband and family, having insurance...if that's all you had, you'd still be very rich, wouldn't you? :)

I hope to remember 2008 as the year Grandma4444 entered treatment for her alcoholism and finally got rid of that demon, once and for all (she just went yesterday; please keep Pat in your prayers.)

I kind of want my basement to flood. Well o.k., I don't.

I'm so glad you re-discovered blogging!

I am so glad that "The End" was followed by of 2008, because I was afraid for a second that you were going to say it was the end of your blog. Lucky for you that your basement flooded. I am so glad that you blog and keep blogging.

But what I want to know is what happened to your basement?

Did it flood or something? You weren't too clear on that.

Hey,our basement flooded all the time when I lived in Springville, too! But our insurance never paid for new carpet. We just pulled ours back and set fans out to dry everything and then layed it back down.

Ours was a burst water softener pipe that ran all day when nobody was home. But, yes, a real pain to dry out!

Sounds like you had a blessed year. Even a flood was a blessing in disguise :-) Wishing you the best in 2009!
