hot and cold

It has been about 25 degrees here all week, and when this weather hits I find myself dreaming about sunny North Carolina beaches that I have visited regularly since I was a kid. I don't mind the snow or the cold too much. I actually love it around Christmas. But I am already starting to predict my January blues. Does anyone else suffer from that? I am not prone to depression or getting into a deep funk, but January feels about 57 days too long most years, and I am doing that daydreaming thing again.

But instead of spending the big bucks to buy plane tickets to a warm place as therapy, I do things like get a red stripe in my hair to liven things up. Heather of the EO posted about coloring her hair and I wanted to chime in and agree with her. It is fun to have some way to brighten things up! I made sure to ask the hairdresser if I was too old to make this bold move and she just laughed.

How did she know I was doing it no matter what she said?

What a great family picture! I LOVE it! And the new hair is great too. I read your comment at the EO and was really curious to see how it looked. It's just funky enough without being to wacky. Looks great!

YES! The January blues, or spring fever as we call it, starts the day after Christmas, sometimes. I always feel like such a wimp since I live in California and CAN GO to the beach whenever I want (well, it is a two hour drive from here) but the short sunless days have the same affect on me as ones that are snowy. Plus, 40 degrees is as cold for us hot house flowers as 25 is for you guys. I love your family picture--you are beautiful, and you are even skinnier now then you were then! So looking forward to Monday's post--can't wait!

OH, and I second Lisa's comment. :)

I got the winter blahs when I lived there, too...I love snow (and, consequently, miss it) until Christmas, and THEN I can't wait until spring. Utah's grey skies through January and February were terrible for that! I guess that's one way the southwest is nice--no real cold weather. But it comes at a price, because WE GET NO SPRING!

I am a bishop's wife so I need to be careful to not look too weird. It is tough though, red stripe or not! :)

Kazzy, you're beautiful. I love the hair. It's not too crazy at all, and doing something different does brighten things up, no? Even if just for a little while, it's still fun!

I do get the blues, it's no secret. And the cold and dreary Minnesota weather doesn't help too much.

But I'm trying really hard to keep it at bay. THE BEAST! :)

My sister had to remove her multiple ear piercings when her husband became bishop (and after Pres. Hinckley specifically referred to them in a conference talk--um, not hers, multiple piercings in general) and now he is stake president so it looks like her obedience was a form of punishment. I think it would be so hard to be either a bishop's wife or a stake president's! Good thing that isn't going to happen to me. At least, I feel quite sure it won't. Or, if it does, I will be old and wrinkled and past the need for fads and fashions. Either that, or dead.

I keep meaning to tell you how much I love your red stripe. I caught Scott staring at the top of my head yesterday during church. I asked him what he was looking at and he said, "I'm just wondering what you would look like with a cool red stripe."

I was staring at my hair again a few minutes later, so I asked him "now what?" He said he was just checking out my little sprigs of grey hair. (sigh)

Your hair is almost as awesome as your voice. I wish I could be so bold.

That is funny. It looks great. I don't get the blues ever, so my heart goes out to you; make sure you find ways to beat those blues!!

Okay, I have to admit I love January. (I was kinda sorta even NAMED after it). Probably because of my birthday. And Martin Luther King Day, which guarantees me a long weekend every year to celebrate!

When I typically get the winter blues is FEBRUARY. When all the snow turns brown but refuses to melt and the sky holds that oppressive inversion layer over everyone's heads. When T.S. Eliot said "April is the cruelest month" I think he had mentally blocked-out February! :)

And I love that you just put a red stripe in your hair! Awesome! You deserve an element of fun right now!
