Musical Monday: Halleluiah

For the past twelve or thirteen years we have attended a music party every December where there is delicious food and wonderful company and cool music. This is the way it works: everyone brings a CD or an mp3 player with a song of their choosing which is played while the rest of us sit around and appreciate it. I have been introduced to some pretty incredible stuff that I am sure would have passed me by had I not been to this party. This year I especially enjoyed a track from Grace Potter.

Only the husband of the hosting couple and I usually perform something. Most of the time separate, but this year I called him a couple of days in advance and asked if he could play Leonard Cohen's Halleluiah on guitar for me to sing to. He was excited and it went well. After the party was winding down I asked if my husband could record him with his voice recorder so that I could blog it for Musical Monday. I then brought the recording home and added my own track on top of it. I intentionally kept the background party noise because I thought it added some humaness.

So here is Halleluiah by Mark Fullmer and Kazzy. Merry Christmas to my bloggy friends, and keep a Halleluiah in your heart.

Kazzy's voice has been silenced by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act(see the details here). Sorry you can't listen to her sing directly. But send her a message and she'll try to work something out.

OHMYHECK! You know this is one of my very most favorites, right? Okay, I need to listen but first I have to get the Spouse to turn off Terminator III.

So, you play the piano and the guitar, TOO? I used to play the guitar, sigh . . Anyway, AWESOME!! Loved it! I love that you chose to sing verses that one rarely hears! This was the first time my husband really enjoyed this song (I think he is tired of my obsession since it was always guys singing it--an obsession that is now renewed . . .) So, Kaz, you rate over Terminator III with the Spouse! Yay!!

I didn't know that, but I am happy to oblige. :) Grab those headphones!

No, no. I don't play anything but the voice box. I rely on other people's talents for my accompaniment. Glad your husband enjoyed it though!

Well, okay, now I don't have to be so totally and thoroughly sick with envy and an inferiority complex. (JK) (sorta)

A music party! What a wonderful idea!

I love this! That Mr. Fullmer knows his guitar, and your voice is lovely as ever. Thanks for sharing this.

(and my husband fixed my computer so I can listen to and watch things now. Hooray!)

Your best Musical Monday so far. That was amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your talent (and your friend's!)

I think I may even put it on my iPod!

You sing beautifully :) I don't know whether you've heard what happened in the UK Christmas chart this year, but the number 1 & 2 spots in the chart are *both* versions of this song (with the original Leonard Cohen version at something like 36). It's a beautiful song and always makes me cry.

I LOVE IT! You were totally inspired to team up with that guy on the guitar. Great sound. I love that song. And I love what you did with it.

We used to have music nights like that at our house in Pasadena. Great memories. We should do that again. And I'm totally inviting you if we do!
