back in the saddle

After 22 years I was back at it today. I am a BYU student again, taking classes in the Counseling, Psychology, Special Education department.

me looking for a parking space

It felt raw and comforting (at the same time) sitting in a classroom today, listening to an excited and well-informed professor talk about caring for children and putting their needs at the top of the list. I felt good sitting there in my black upholstered rolling chair, taking notes with my red pen on an old steno pad. Over the shoulders of the young women across the room the big windows framed flowering trees and snow-capped mountains.

Sometimes when we get back into something we had gotten out of practice in we can feel intimidated, and sometimes we can feel alive. Big exhale.

I'm so jealous. I'd love to go back to school but I don't have an excuse to right now. I totally want a masters in literature, mainly because I want to study literature.

I am so proud of you, and just a little bit jealous. :) I know this year is going to be a lot of work for you, but what an accomplishment!

Did you ever find a decent parking spot?

Kazzy | May 6, 2009 at 6:32 AM

I found a pretty decent spot, but luckily I brought a second pair of shoes so I didn't have to walk the whole way in my heels!

I so agree. I remember when I got my Masters--my undergrad I loved for the socialness of it all...but my Masters I loved for the classes.

How long will it take? I am so excited and happy for you!!

Their parking lot can be such a night mare. I was taking a class at night there and always felt like I had to walk 3 miles to get from my car to the class.

I am so happy for you!

So you decided to do it after all, huh? I was just about to log on and check the offerings myself this morning.

Good for you! So good!

I am so happy for you Karen. I think you will really enjoy being a student again. Looks Like I am the only one to say I am glad that it is you and not me. I am so done with being a student.

You're an amazing person! You'll do great as a student and as a teacher!

If you need adderall to help you stay focused...never mind.

Yay for you! I might be sick, but I loved going to the testing center and seeing a really big, comforting tree out the windows. BYU is the best! And there is something about learning that makes you feel alive.
