day fifty-four: realignment
We had our ward boundaries adjusted today, as did 6 of the 8 wards in our stake. Ours was the only ward to lose nobody and gain a lot of new people. We feel blessed and excited to welcome new folks into the ward, and I am already planning some serious hugging once next Sunday hits. Change is good. New friends are good. And then when I hear myself typing that (wink) I wonder if I could say the same thing if it were me and my family being realigned into another ward. Change seems to be really good for the soul when it is not my soul being changed. Isn't that usually the way?
But today I realized that I can be my own change. I can realign myself. And I know that is an ongoing process.

Change can be hard but it helps us grow and learn. We went through that many years ago, actually we've been through many ward alignments but this one in particular affected us greatly. A small portion of our ward was annexed into another. We felt very displaced. When it was time for us to move out of state, we cried to leave the people in that ward. It will all be good, especially if the new members get hugs from you!
I feel very blessed that we didn't loose anyone in the boundary change and I can't wait to meet the new families in our ward. Still, my heart goes out to those that are going through a rather jolting change in their social circle. Is it selfish to be grateful that everything I wished for in the boundary change came true?
I remember when our ward was realigned. It was fun to get new families---but yeah, we didn't really change either. Glad you have a positive attitude to help the new families adjust:)
Ain't that the truth?? Our stake was reorganized over a YEAR ago, and we got cut off and put in a new stake. It's been VERY hard. I was surprised at how hard it was/is. Growing usually hurts.
My mum was moved from her ward of 25 years into her (loveable but eccentric and sometimes maddening) mother's ward three years ago. She has yet to fully recover. Like Marianne said, growing usually hurts.
