low and comfy

"Sometimes the low, comfortable notes are the ones we go the flattest on," she said, as we stood at the mic recording some music.  So true, I thought.

So we sang and sang until we felt spent, and I found myself making a little secret fist beside my leg when I had to hit anything besides middle C, which, after a few hours, is my most comfortable place.  The place where I feel true and wholly me.

Today my son was unhappy with himself for a B in an easy computer class, so I told him, "Sometimes the low, comfortable notes are the ones we go the flattest on."  And he looked at me and nodded.

It always makes me happy that music and life parallel each other so perfectly. Like God just gave us another (beautiful and wonderful) medium for learning the Gospel.

And, those low notes are definitely a little too comfortable sometimes. (I personally love Eb)

Can we hear it? The magic music? I dream of being there...

She was fun to hang out with. We sang. We ate. We sang again. We sat in the living room and talked. And we finished the evening with some singing. :)

We talked about doing a huge collaborative thing with all of our blogging friends that would be interested. I could get a friend to play a back track for us (guitar) once we chose a good piece, and we could record remotely from wherever we are, if we have decent mics. Send them to me for splicing in, etc. What do you think?

And I will post after a little post-production. And permission from my partner. :)

What a wonderful evening we had together! I learned a lot of things, including the fact that 20 years with a baton in your hand doesn't necessarily improve your vocal capabilities. Oh well, you covered for both of us!

I think it is a great idea but you need a piano player, right? :)

Too much fun!
So is it painful to sing higher?

It's painful for everyone around me to have me sing higher....or maybe just sing.

yes, if it's easy we get a little too comfortable....have to always hone that edge....

Oh, it's lovely to be understood, and it's extremely awesome that you showed understanding to your son in a way that it's pretty cool that HE was able to understand. :)

How did the recording session go? When will we hear it or be able to buy the CD? Love your profile picture.

Ditto Connie's comment...

I love the moment you had with your son. I think my low comfy notes fall flat sometimes too, though not my actual singing notes--none of those are comfy for me, but they are often flat. :)

So true. Somewhere between uptight/worried and laid back/comfortable is the zone where good things happen.
