Musical Monday: Shenandoah

I am a Virginian, and for over four-hundred years that has meant something to people. Virginia is a place where ghosts of presidents float. It is where you can walk on top of the snow because the ice makes a shiny shell. It is where carpeted hills roll and roll and almost sing.

Shenandoah

Oh, Shenandoh, I long to hear you.
Away, you rolling river.
Oh, Shenandoh, I long to hear you.
Away, I'm bound to go,
Across the wide Missouri.

Tis seven long years since last I saw you.
Away you rolling river.
Tis seven long years since last I saw you.
Away, I'm bound to go,
Across the wide Missouri.

And I did.

I love this song. This is a song Andy would sing to the kids as he put them to sleep. I know they all love it too.

I missed my music fix early this morning. Glad you posted it today!

Beautifully done!
Hope your new teacher induction went well. We'll have to discuss our days of "training"

I finally figured out what it is about your voice I love so much. It's sweet, but it's more than that. It's sweet with a beautiful, emotional depth to it as well. Could listen to you for hours...

No one but me can truly appreciate the torture of being in such constant proximity to a woman whose currents run as deep as the Shenandoah and the Missouri (and throw in the Amazon, too)

And here I thought that was you playing the guitar! Kimberly is right-your voice is special. It takes more than singing in tune to be touch people. Nicely done.

Ha! Your husband's comment is priceless! You sang another fave of mine--even my wedding china is called Shenendoah. Loved it to pieces!

This song (and Danny Boy) are the two most likely to move me to tears. You sang it so beautifully. Your voice has that Karen Carpenter kind of melancholy that is so enchanting.

Just beautiful. I look forward to Mondays...any day that I can hear your voice is special to me. Love you and miss you...mom

Connie- It would be a great lullaby.

Kimberly- Thank you, thank you :)

Gid- Aren't you a bit biased?

4444- I WISH I could play the guitar. I think I will reward myself with lessons after I get my Spec Ed license next August.

Heidi- Yes, Gid is a man of many words. I like to think he usually means them. :)

Melissa_ Thanks for the comparison. This was a good range for me. I am a true first alto/ second soprano.

Lanie- Another biased listener! XOXO

I crossed the wide Missouri this year too. Love that song.
