perspective moments

Yesterday I stood in line for three hours to purchase a brand new iPad (totally digging it) because my dad-in-law bought the one I got for Christmas off of me. But I will admit I felt some survivors' guilt, thinking of Japan.

Then this morning I pulled over to the curb while Geo and #4 ran into the bagel shop for some cinnamon, sesame, and blueberry bagels, and I saw this:

While I snapped the photo I was listening to Michelle Tumes singing, "...now lay aside all cares.". Poignant.

It's so sad. I'm more grateful than ever for who I love and what I have.

That's so funny! Were you at the gateway? I was there yesterday and had to ask why everyone was standing in line. I couldn't believe the line!

Puts everything into perspective, doesn't it?

This has been a strange week. I've been reading about the martyrdom of Joseph Smith, listening to a book on CD about the holocaust, reading in Helaman about the sufferings of those who were righteous at the hands of the wicked, then to see the devastation caused by the tsunami, I'm exhausted. My heart is heavy.

It's surreal to think of all the devastation happening over there when my life seems to go on as normal!

That's what I'm talking about, Barb.

It's been hard to watch and try and put myself in their shoes. Overwhelming at best.

I am very sad about Japan, Hawaii and even CA. It has been a quite the week/weekend.

I am tired and ready for some peace and quiet.

I find it hard to wrap my mind around events like this - it is so hard to not know how you can help but only watch horrible footage on t.v. or see headlines.

Congrats on your new Ipad. There was a huge line at our mall - it sounds like it's going to be a winner!

it really is hard to comprehend the devastation when so little changes in my daily life. it seems horrible that I've been complaining about things that seem such small potatoes in comparison.

More thankful prayers on their way :)

What does the new Pad have that's different? I haven't looked into it much.

It is heartwrenching in Japan. There's no way to prepare for something like that.

The contrast is so startling at times, isn't it? Poignant indeed.

the devastation is overwhelming it seems.
and ya know, since I have moved here, I haven't seen one great Bagel shop to get my wonderful variety of Bagels I got in SLC. With the great spreads!!!

I feel incredibly selfish continuing in my patterns. Selfish and blessed. It's a conundrum I can't quite wrap my mind around.

I can empathise with survivor's guilt, but there's nothing much we can physically do to help. We can give money, we can pray, if we have the skills required we can volunteer. But we should also continue with our own lives and work on helping those around us. Nowadays we seem to be overwhelmed by tragedies around the world. Let's work on keeping positive and peaceful ourselves.

Life and death - one or the other is nearby. It certainly is a tragic event but I know other tragedies will occur. Not that it is easy but you go on eventually. The modern world does have an odd way of bringing events into our lives that would have been unknown generations ago. You pause, reflect, help if you can, then life goes on.

It's just horrible. And yet, sometimes I forget, because as horrible as it is, it is so far away from me. But yeah. It so puts my life into perspective when I sit down and read the stories coming out of this tragedy.
