day 210: with tiffany and justin for all
A couple of years ago there was a boy in our class that was a good-looking little brooder. He would climb off the bus each afternoon with a look on his face that said everything in my life is against me. If I caught him off-guard I could get him to smile, but it was a tough sell, even on the happiest of days. Then the teacher (which was not me that year) asked for volunteers to come up and demonstrate the Pledge of Allegiance. This same student comes to the front of the room, looks over the class with a bit of a smirk, puts his hand on his heart, and starts in ....one nation, under guard, invisible, with tiffany and justin for all.
This year we also have a boy in our class that said under guard for months until I finally corrected him. And let's face it, indivisible is a word that is just asking for trouble in every kindergarten classroom across this great country of ours.
So wherever tiffany and justin are, can you please talk to the president about increased funding for public schools? We need your help!

Yeah, it's about time Tiffany and Justin got to work! :) Kids are so cute, and how true is that about the indivisible!
Also, I'm glad you still say the pledge over there. I was sure that would have been done away with by now.
In third and fifth grade I had the same teacher and she taught us to say the pledge of allegiance in Spanish. Now that I'm older I realize how very weird that is. I thought it was cool at the time, but now I'm wondering if she wasn't trying to make some sort of statement. . .
Tiffany and Justin...when is their hit single coming out?
Yes to more funding for schools.
Do we ever need the government's help! I'm afraid the education system IS becoming invisible and we should be on our guard! Thankfully, we're a nation under God and he'll watch over us.
In the meantime, Tiffany and Justin will have to find something else to do!
Hey, I am with ya on the more money for schools part.
Every day I have the honor of standing with a 3rd grade class and saying the pledge! I love doing. I love that for one brief moment we can say "God", united as a school.
Not sure where Tiffany & Justin are, but if I hear any thing will let you know! :)
Awesome. I'm smiling, probably will all day!! Thanks!
So cute. I have a friends whose daughter used to sing "With parents kind of dear". Ironically, this was after the line, "And He has sent me ears".
Re: The pledge. I wish I could re-wire the way we say it, so that there isn't that big pause between "Under God" and "Indivisible". I think we'd get a much clearer idea as to how this country can stay united if we just said, "One nation, under God indivisible".
Oooo...I like how DeNae just put that. Nice.
The character of one of my favourite books is named Tiffany (much to her chagrin) so this makes me grin all the more.
Bwwaahhhaaaa!
Too funny.
I had a student yesterday call to me, "Piano Teacher! Hey, Piano Teacher look at this!" I just laughed and said "Piano Teacher" wasn't my name. At which point he said he'd forgotten it, and then smacked his head and said he couldn't believe he'd forgotten "Candy."
I just thought it was hilarious he added "piano" in front of "teacher." Kids come up with the funniest things to say.
I've been wondering where about Tiffany and Justin! Perhaps they can also work at finding the perfect solution to the health care crisis!
As for the education system, it's interesting that more money is going to fund military activity than to educate our children, adolescents, and adults. I think I remember that we need to take care of those within FIRST before helping those without. (Not that I am ranting about the war. Just a thought)
Tiffany here!
I don't know what I can do from Canada...
