day 221: tweezing tips

One very very important thing I learned once by watching What Not to Wear is never tweeze the tops of your eyebrows.

I know I have mentioned my love for all things Stacy and Clinton before, and I may have even mentioned this little tweezing tip, but to me it bears repeating because I am a daily tweezer.  Yes, all my fair haired friends, when you have dark hair and like your eyebrows to accentuate your eyes, and not overwhelm them, you feel the need to tweeze on a very regular basis.

When you keep the tweezing to under the brow, across your eyelids, you make sure to maintain a nice arch.  You can reach up into the brow a bit, but never ever ever tweeze above the brow.  Over-reaching the bounds will cause the need for regular maintenance that could have been avoided if you had followed this extremely important advice.

And that is the extent of my eyebrow parable, which is to be interpreted (or not) any way you wish.
Amen.

ps This is not a picture of my eye, but I have also learned the art of lining the top lid only with a thick swath of liner.  This is my new favorite make-up discovery (no parable intended).

For those of us who can't see as well close up, may have to go to a salon to get our brows waxed and maybe tinted. While there we put our eyebrows in someone else's hands. I walked away from one salon with my eyebrows in a permanent surprised look! I wonder if that esthetician tweezed ABOVE my brows! She needs to get a few tips from "What Not to Wear!"
I'm surprised! Just look at me!

I never knew this. You'd think I would with eyebrow monsters like mine! Thanks for sharing!

I assumed it was your gorgeous eye! I have known this forever, not sure how or why. AND I also love Stacy and Clinton. Once in a while, if you have a decidedly stray hair hanging out a good quarter inch above the rest, one is allowed to get rid of it. Honest. Here's my cautionary tale: When your eyebrow hair starts turning gray or white or kind of curly, if you tweeze them, you won't have much eyebrow left. I am missing half an eyebrow on each (which totals a whole eyebrow if one cared to look at it that way) and it's not pretty. Thank goodness for eyebrow repairs kits!

I am a daily tweezer, too, due to my dark hair and unibrow. Although, like Connie, I don't have very good eyesight either, so sometimes I go for a waxing.

These are good tips. And I shall have to try the eyeliner trick sometime. I don't even think I own any at present.

MMmmmm, pretty eyebrows. I totally have eyebrow envy, I wish mine had a really pretty shape and arch, but no, they're just kind of there. But yes, I did know not to tweeze above! Yay! Now I want to go put some eye liner on, pretty...

I let a friend pluck my eyebrows at girl's camp one year, and they have never been the same since!
I have heard this before (not to pluck above the eyebrow). I go the waxing route, and I have had more than a few times that they have waxed/plucked from the top!
I guess it could be worse (shaved and painted on eyebrows, anyone?)

Sigh.

I can attest to what happens if this sage advice is NOT heeded.

I too am a compulsive daily tweezer, due to being dark of hair.

Your Heidi friend there just gave me a scare. I don't have any grey hairs in my brows yet...even though I just turned the heinous number 4-0. (I do have grey in my hair on my head, sadly, and have to color now)
It never occurred to me that my eyebrows would get grey. Lovely. One more thing to look forward to.
But Heidi saved me from plucking them, which is what I'd be inclined to do.

I have actually noticed your fine eyebrows before, young lady.

Thanks for the tips and spiritual upliftment.

I heart Stacy and Clinton.
