day 273: breaking up
Today my husband stopped at the drug store and bought himself a mountain dew and a container of chocolate ice cream (this is as serious as his vices get). When he was checking out, the tattooed cashier asked, Get dumped? The guy is pretty youthful looking, and the clues were all there, in the form of junk food, but it made him laugh.
This got me thinking about being dumped. It has happened to me in many different varieties.
Twenty-four years ago I was engaged to a great young man that had changed my life. We loved each other. We were happy. But he realized he needed more life experience, and I was not quite filling that bill. It was tough. I cried a lot. I questioned my now-open future. Then, 6 weeks later, I met Geo. I am crazy in love with him.
About 5 years ago I was dumped by a close friend. Personal healing on her part made it impossible to retain our friendship. I was somehow a glaring light on some of the things she was struggling with. I was in the way of her progress. After a few years of distance we are now reacquainted, and it is at a good pace. I have deep feelings for her.
Sometimes I even dump myself. When I don't get to bed on time. When I don't take enough time to meditate. When I don't listen to myself. When I don't read enough. When I don't exercise enough. When I don't sing enough. When I don't hug enough. When I don't cry enough. When I don't laugh enough.
Being dumped can be a great cause for reflection and circumspection.
So I now ask myself, Can we get back together? I miss you.

Beautiful post, though painful. A lot to think about.
And you got a jukebox! Yay! Can't wait to try it out.
You are a beautiful person with so much to offer. I'm sorry people are sometimes stupid and miss that about you.
Being dumped is not fun! But I guess its part of life. Good post.
Totally been dumped by myself recently. Great post. Very relevant. Thanks.
I am thinking that there are only a few other places in the world where Mountain Dew and chocolate ice cream would provoke the dumping comment.
Sorry, I'm still laughing about the Mountain Dew and ice cream...
Being dumped is incredibly painful...bad enough when a boyfriend does it but when a good girlfriend does it, it really hurts. But we have to surround ourselves with positive people and obviously...it sure isn't them! good riddance.....
I was dumped by a friend too. No reconnect here. Very sad.
I think they should have an express lane in the grocery store just for the recently dumped.
This is a great post. I have been dumped loads, but as long as my husband doesn't do it, I'll be o.k!
I can't think of anyone for you to be great friends with. : )
Robin- XO
Ca88- It is part of the experience. So true
Dona- I am still laughing over the cashier!
Miss T- Do people in Canada get dumped?
Susan- finding uplifting influences... I have learned this the hard way.
Betty- sorry you never reconnected.
Melissa- we really only need the important people to be super devoted, huh?
Heidi- LOL I am trying to decipher what you meant. I know you like me, so I am going to assume the best.
Eeep! I *meant*--I can't think of anyone better than YOU for you to be great friends with. Does that make more sense? (going away, mutttering to myself . . )
I HATE getting dumped. But I like your take on this, on the various types of being dumped. I was once dumped by TWO best friends at the SAME TIME. GRIEF!!!
There is healing, though. Sometimes it seems like it's impossible, but it always comes, slowly but surely. Kinda amazing, isn't it, how much we can recover from?
I'm glad you're managing to re-form your relationship with your friend. That can only be a good sign for trying to re-connect with yourself :)
ha ha ha That was awesome. You da bomb!!!
And look at little miss robin. All is right with the world when she is in her place.
I've been dumped by friends before. Totally not fun. I do tend to dump on myself sometimes, but I've learned how to apologize to myself real well.
This has made me pause and reflect on some things in my life. I not only dump myself but find I dump too much on myself. Time to take a breather and not be so busy that I don't know myself any more!
Glad you and your friend reconciled..for her sake! She was missing out on a lot not being your friend.
Being dumped definitely stinks.
I like what you said about dumping yourself. Boy do I ever do that a lot! I just love your thoughts and outlook on life.
well, if all your hubby needs when feeling low is mt. dew and ice cream, he should be ok.
that was funny
and no kidding, I want to dump myself all the time.
ALL THE TIME. It is a good thing I have some people who love me, as I do enough HATING MYSELF to pretty much last for a life time.
so, hmmm, I need to find a way to "want me back" again
things are good and I am happy, but there are deep demons that like to surface and haunt me
