luck

My oldest son, Perry August Burton

If you are lucky your 23-year old son comes to your house with his sweet wife to visit and eat your cooking. He hugs you and talks to you about important things, like school and money and church. He sits on the floor and plays with your dog and goes downstairs to bang on his old drum set, which now belongs to his 15-year old brother who is too cool to admit he idolizes him.

If you are lucky you exchange texts and follow each other on instagram. You are real-life and virtual friends.

And the best thing is that he is your boy. Forever.

That is very sweet. Glad to see he loves his mama.

Oh, I hope so much for good relationships with my grown children. That is, when they're actually grown.:)

I had no idea you were a mama to a 23 year old, a Married 23 year old!! He is so handsome too :-D

You just look way too young chick!

It is THE best when you can be friend with your grown children. I have a similar relationship with my oldest son - it is a happy thing.

Love this post ... now you have to tell us *how* to have that kind of relationship. I so want it, and I make my son promise to still hug me when he's a teenager ... but??

(And how the heck are you looking so young and gorgeous with a 23 y/o married son?!) I'm going to be well over 50 when my son is 23 [sigh]

I don't even know what instagram is so I must not be very lucky.

But hey-my mom and I text and I go to her house ALL the time to eat her cooking, so that's kind that same, right? :)

Yeah, you are pretty lucky. My oys don't talk much unless it's about hunting, wich starts here in a few weeks :)

The sweetest reward of mothering is when the kids come home or call you when they don't have to...love that!

Love this. Boy-children are amazing. Even after they're all done being children.

Today is Paul's 21st birthday. And your post made me cry.

I would love his hug right about now...

Thanks! :-)

I hope I don't jinx it but I have this going on with my 18-year-old, the talking part anyway. He lives at home still so he is stuck with my cooking :)

It truly is a blessing to have such a relationship with your son. I feel exactly the same way as you do.

I think I have been posting comments in the wrong spot for each post. Thinking that they were below not on top. Got it right now.

AMEN!!!! I hope it's that way when my boy comes home in March. I pray the time apart will have brought us closer and that we can be "real" and "virtual" friends. :)
