day thirty-three: liquor, but not really

My good friend that lives in my neighborhood is up and moving soon to Toronto. She and the family are taking a three-year sabbatical from Happy Valley in order to go and have an adventure in a foreign land (well, Canada). I am excited for them to have this experience, even though we will miss them tremendously. My kids, on the other hand, give me and my husband crusty looks over their cereal bowls in the mornings when we try and convince them that these kinds of things are good for a family.

Last week in church this same friend, who had a bit of a rocky road coming back into the fold, told me that she found liquor bottle boxes to be the sturdiest ones out there to pack their belongings in for the drive east. Something I might not have known without that tip. She also told me that she and her husband decided to spend an evening last week in the temple after a day of cleaning and packing and making big decisions, and as they were getting out of their Suburban to go inside for some worshiping they glanced into the back to see that they had not quite unloaded all of the boxes yet that they had earlier picked up from the local liquor store.

Just a funny little Sunday story there for ya.

Could this also be a post about not judging?
I know first hand that liquor boxes are sturdy and work well for moving! We used them on our move from Boise to Happy Valley!

So are you and your husband thinking of taking a 3 year sabbatical?

You don't know me from Adam (Eve?) but I'm a friend of Juliana's. Anyways, I've been lurking for a while, but I had a similar story once...my husband's brother gave him his old car when we got married--with the six inch letters RABIST (should've been a P not a B) keyed into the hood by my brother-in-law's crazy ex-wife. One Saturday, we thought we'd clean it before heading to the temple. As we walked out, there in it's shining glory was our bright red car with RABIST (not a smart girl, to say the least) staring at us, and everyone else, as it was sitting on the front row.

I am very glad we have an understanding Bishop when I have liquor boxes stacked in my driveway and on my porch...I hope my neighbors are as forgiving :)

That is a pretty funny story.

When we moved to our town, we found out that there is a married couple here - the husband runs the liquor store, and the wife is the head judge in town. Kind of silly!

I am not sure what to say, I had no idea that liquor boxes were the strongest boxes for moving. If I had know that about 5 years ago, I would have used them when moving from CA.

I LOVE when stuff like that happens!

(And it's TRUE about the liquor boxes. -- At least they
're good for SOMETHING!)

Oh, that's funny. When we moved a couple of years ago we had our stuff almost all in cigarette boxes. Cute.
