falling

When I was a kid I remember learning that the reason we sometimes call Autumn Fall is because leaves fall from the trees.

Today, when I took a solo drive up into Hobble Creek Canyon, I wondered if we call it Fall because the earth (at least our little slice of it) passes through a period of death. A kind of fall like that experienced in the Garden. Where there needed to be a time of rest and reassessment, before the resurrection could be the glorious thing it was.

I sleep in my spirituality. I fall.

Great thought. Something to consider.

I did a preschool lesson about Fall and all of the things that fall at this time of year (leaves, pinecones and other seed pods, nuts of all sorts, rain etc.)

I think the fall could be considered like falling into death, but because of our hope that the Spring will come we know it is more of a falling into a deep sleep. Great analogy.

Now, why have I never thought about fall like this before? It makes so much sublime sense.

I don't think there's a more beautiful death than Fall. I am a summer girl all the way, but the beauty of fall is unparalleled.

I love that. The earth is falling to sleep for the winter.

I really like this idea! A fall, a winter of rest and reassessment, a glorious resurrection spring, and a celestial summer! :)

Love the poetry. And you had time to take a solo drive somewhere? You are amazing!

See? This is why I often read your posts before any other (even if I can rarely comment). You are awesome and full of insight. Can you just send me a book made out of your blog? I think it would remind me of all the important things I seem to forget in the busyness of an individual day.
